What was my father Martin J. Walsh Jr. doing in May and June of 1953?
I can tell you what he was doing from May 28, 1953 to June 2, 1953, as I obtained a copy of the list of in-bound passengers on the SS United States from Le Havre, France to New York.
My late father, Martin J. Walsh Jr. of Murdock, Minnesota, age 28, was traveling in England, Ireland, France and perhaps others countries. What stories my father must have told after his grand experiences on the ship and Europe!
The ship departed departed Le Havre, France on May 28, 1953 and arrived in New York on June 2, 1953. Dad was traveling in tourist class, and is listed from Murdock, Minnesota.
What’s the big deal about a passenger list? Well, if you are looking for family that immigrated to the United States, you might just find clues to your genealogy puzzle on passenger lists. I found this document at ancestry.com.
It’s also interesting to know about the period our parents or ancestors lived. The ship SS United States was a grand ship for the period, considered to be the fastest to and from Europe.
